At first glance, it may appear that the overriding objective of Little Kickers classes is to provide children with an entertaining opportunity to participate in sport. The children are encouraged to play games and use their imaginations, whilst running around and having lots of fun. The vast majority of participants will not be aware that they are actively learning key skills as they get involved in the classes, and it has been proven in numerous studies (Fromberg & Gullo [1992], Frost [1992], Rogers & Sawyer [1988]), that children learn most effectively through active play.
The Little Kickers programme has been developed by professionals from a number of fields and, in addition to engaging children through fun and creative play, it also promotes the development of a wide range of early learning skills.
Many of the games and exercises that the children complete within the Little Kickers programme have been specifically designed to compliment the learning and development requirements as outlined in the Early Years Learning Framework which is part of the Council of Australian Government’s agenda.
