WILMA the wombat is snug as a bug in her new sleeping hutch thanks to Mitcham Girls High School Year 12 student Shanae Brown.
Shanae made the hutch for Wilma, an 18-month-old endangered southern hairy nosed wombat, in her communities studies course.
“I love woodwork, and for the course you have to do something for the community, so I decided to make a cage for Wilma to sleep in,” Shanae said.
Wilma’s owner, Bev Langley who runs Minton Farm Animal Rescue centre, said she was thrilled with the hutch. “We are always looking for housing for the animals,” Mrs Langley said.
Wilma came to the centre after her mother was killed.
“She had pneumonia and salmonella when she came to us,” Mrs Langley said.
